I've been implementing Microsoft Dynamics GP since 1998 and was given a copy of this book to review.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Implementation is a great resource for all levels of expertise. I found that her book thoroughly covered implementation from beginning to end. She covers not only the job of implementing the software but also how to plan before and after implementation including what kind of training should be considered. There are many helpful hints that you won’t find in any of the documentation manuals. Even the most experienced implementer will find something they can learn from. I’ve been implementing Dynamics GP since version 2 and found some helpful suggestions that I had not thought of before. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a comprehensive resource to help with their Microsoft Dynamics GP implementations.

Excellent Book for GP 2013 Implementation !!!

Packt Publishing gave me a copy of this book to review and I have purchased previous Microsoft Dynamics GP books from Packt Publishing.

This is a very good book for someone to be able to understand what is needed to implement Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 and to finish the installation and have Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 up and running.

I liked that it told you how Microsoft Dynamics GP is architected and things you need to consider before you start your implementation. The book had the right amount of graphics ( screen shots ) to help you follow along and the forums and blogs at the end are good to have as a complement to the detail in the book.

Victoria is an accomplished and certified Microsoft Most Valuable Partner for Microsoft Dynamics GP and I constantly refer to her website when I have questions to be answered in GP.

Astra Evans, sexy,smart and sassy! She has no time or patience for shifters having grown up believing they were the reason for her mother's death. Fear the unknown is only the beginning, can you hate the unknown? Surrounding herself with family is what she does, Doc and Grant..she was raised by shifters, are they all bad? Especially when one particular, shifter has her body thumping and humming for her mystery man. Kane Ortiz, sexy,good looking, he has a heart of gold.. The time is running out and for the little vixen (those luscious curves). A group of shifters are closing in. His only chance is to seek permission from the alpha to stay in of Bear Canyon. Let the drama begin. The storyline is superb! Can Kane help Astra and can she open his heart to reveal forever? Two hearts that will beat as one..they are destined mates. They both have their own baggage but love can cure it all. The sex in the book was unbelievable. Elle Thorne once again has a terrific follow up, the series is sexy, romantical and decadently delicious. Would recommend this for fans of bear shifters romance. Gave the book 5 stars, character development,storyline. It has the perfect blend of romance,suspense and drama, the sex IS hot!

I picked this one up as a kindle freebie without knowing till I had started it that it was book 2. Astra has issues with shifters because they are the cause of her mother’s death when she was young even though she was raised by a bear shifter. When a stranger comes to town she knows right away he’s a shifter and wants him gone but before he can leave she finds herself falling for him. Kane isn’t looking for a place to be tied down he’s on the run from three bounty hunters after he saved another shifter. When an avalanche leaves the pair stuck in a cabin will they find that maybe it’s time for her to like shifters? Will Kane realize he might be staying in the valley?

I like Astra she has a good head on her shoulders, and she is stubborn what’s not to like about a girl who isn’t afraid to push back. I like that Astra was willing to give it a chance and open up to Kane because they work really well together. I liked Kane he’s a good guy with good heart who’s just right to bring Astra out of her shifter issues.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked up Seduction and was pleasantly surprised to find a captivating shifter romance. While the novel does have a lot of steamy moments I found them to be tastefully written, and they fit in the story. I really enjoyed the characters I was able to connect with them. I loved that Astra is a curvy girl it’s refreshing and just made me love her more. While the story is shorter than I prefer I felt that the author did a great job creating a unique little romance that is perfect for a quick read. This is my first novel by this author and already I’ve become a quick fan. I enjoyed her writing style it’s a well written short story. I’m already looking forward to checking out the rest of her books.

The second book of the Bear Canyon Valley series continues with Astra and Kane. Astra hates shifters, all shifters for killing her mother. Even though she was raised by a shifters she only excepts those she calls family and does not want strange shifters moving into the area. Kane is hurt,hunted and running, getting permission from the Alpha to stay in Bear Canyon he is not looking to deal with the feisty Astra. The funny thing about Karma and mating, they really don't care what you want or like but give you what you need. Kane's bear wants Astra and knows she is theirs but the human wants her to come to them. Astra doesn't understand why she is so drawn to Kane and struggles with wanting him to leave and wanting him to stay. The attraction is sizzling, the interactions are entertaining and the storyline keeps your attention right up to the end. This was a good shifter story that leaves plenty of opportunities for continuation without cliffhangers. I look forward to seeing what happens next.

A Great Book For Discovering Your Power Animal

Shamans and indigenous cultures have long been familiar with the concept of animal guides. Animal guides are represented by animal forms, and provide information, guidance, and protection. Some people use the words animal totems and power animals interchangeably, but according to Dr. Steven Farmer in his new book Power Animals - How To Connect With Your Animal Spirit Guides, there is a subtle difference.

Totem animals are usually asssociated with groups, such as a tribal totem, clan totem, or family totem. Even contemporary cultures have totem animals, such as those for sports teams (e.g. Toronto Blue Jays), or clubs and societies (such as the Lions Club).

Power animals, however, are personal and specific. Like totem animals, they are guardian spirits who empower us. Yet, power animals have a unique and highly personal relationship with the individual, leading the way through non-ordinary reality. Power animals can be contacted through meditation, dreams, visions, and shamanic journeys. They can also appear in physical form, bearing an omen or message--depending on the context of the sighting, how often it appears, and how it is behaving.

Power Animals describes the three realms of non-ordinary reality--and the plane where power animals reside--the four channels of spiritual perception, and how to honor your power animal. Farmer gives a summary of 36 different power animals, including a channeled message from each, qualities of the animal, what it means when a particular animal is your personal power animal, when to ask for this animal's help, and how to access it's power. He acknowledges that his summaries aren't exhaustive, and there are other power animals that exist--including imaginary ones like dragons and unicorns.

Included with this book is a CD featuring guided meditations, with a run-time of 65:53. The first three featuring drumming with a particular rhythm, the fourth has a similar rhythm using a rattle, and the fifth offers a unique type of rhythm and sound using the didgeridoo and click sticks. The drumming and rattling are at the rate of 4 to 7 beats per second, which is the same rhythm that shamans use to induce a trance state in order to do their work.

Personally, there are several birds and animals that I've identified with over the years--animals that gave me great wisdom. However, I never really felt that I connected with them as a power animal. (Of course, I didn't really try to establish a relationship, either.) I approached the process with an open mind, and listened to Track 1 which is a guided meditation to help you find and retrieve your power animal.

Farmer's soothing voice led me down into the earth and out into a place where I was to watch for animals that crossed my path. One could imagine a forest, mountain, desert, beach, ocean, and so on, and I was surprised that my visualization actually shifted between all of these terrains. Quite a few animals, including sea creatures and birds, crossed my path--but Farmer says to be on the lookout for the animal that appears 4 times.

I was quite surprised that a creature did, in fact, come to me 4 times. Most surprisingly, however, was that it was a creature I did not expect. As I "retrieved" this beautiful creature with Farmer's guidance, I felt a sacred joy and reverence fill my being--and tears welled up in my eyes.

After coming out of the meditation and reading about my power animal, I had to chuckle. It made such sense to me! In fact, in a personality system I have studied, my particular personality is often associated with this particular creature. Even the keyword for my power animal is reflected strongly in my astrological chart!

If you're looking for a simple but profound way for discovering your own personal power animals, I highly recommend this book and CD from Dr. Steven Farmer.

Questioning the Validity of this work!

Is it wrong to express disappointment in a book when it fails to live up to your expectations? I purchased this book because I have long been fascinated in the spiritual practice of animal spirits guiding and supporting us.

I didn't feel a strong spiritual connection or conviction concerning the topic from the author. He seemed to briefly tiptoe around the animals that he choose to write about. Even with that, there was little insight or voice to the information presented in the book. I felt like the content was read somewhere and regurgitated on the page with little else added.

I was surprised at the similarity between this book and Ted Andrews' "Animal Speak" book. I was really looking forward reading a new perspective on the power animals. There was absolutely nothing written in the "Power Animals" book that was not available in another book on the power animals.

The content on the pages is limited and lacking in depth. It basically is a cliff notes version for the Ted Andrews book. Save your money and purchase from another author.

A Great Resource Book

Dr. Farmer has brought to us a simple yet very powerful resource guide to explore the phenomenon of animal guides. I have found this book so very helpful to help explain when certain animals have appeared in my dreams, my meditations and so on. The journey Dr. Farmer takes you on with his enclosed CD are great mystical travels through your innerself to bring forth that power animal that is by your side. I was astounded by which animal appeared when I did the CD meditation and when I read the description Dr. Farmer had provided in regards to that particular animal, it fit for me perfectly.

I enjoy in Dr. Farmer's book the information for each animal on how to work with their individual energy, how to bring this energy into your life. This is a great resource book that I highly recommend to anyone whose interests have been to discover the power in animals, who have acted from time to time as our spirit guides in our lives. Bless you Dr. Farmer for compiling this magnificent book of knowledge.

A mixed bag

Brief summary and review, no spoilers.

This book is narrated by two different women at different points in time. The first part of the novel takes place during WWI and tells the story of Sophie LeFevre, who owns and helps run a bar/cafe in a small town outside of Paris. The town has been taken over by Germans and the locals have all suffered from deprivation and oppression at the hands of their captors.

Sophie and her sister Helene are both concerned about their husbands who are French soldiers and possibly in a prison camp or worse. Sophie's husband is a talented and fairly well-known artist named Eduoard, and Sophie's most prized possession is the portrait he did of her shortly after they first met. She has it prominently displayed on the bar wall. When the German Kommandant sees the portrait, he becomes enthralled with it and with Sophie as well. What will happen to Sophie and her family and to their town if the Germans don't leave? And what will Sophie do in order to save her husband and see him again?

The story then moves to the present times and we meet Olivia (Liv) Halston, a woman who's been in a state of depression and grief since the death of her young husband 4 years earlier. Liv is struggling financially and emotionally but things seem to take a turn for the better when she becomes attracted to a man named Paul McCafferty. Paul works for an agency that tries to give priceless paintings stolen by the Nazi's back to their original owners, and when he spots Sophie's portrait in Liv's home, he feels he must take action.

I really enjoyed the WWI parts of this book, which pretty much make up the majority of the first half. I thought this part of the book was stellar and I loved reading about Sophie and the descriptions of her life and of the conditions during the occupation were vivid and educational.

My problem came when we come to the present day. As believable as I found Sophie and the decisions she had to make - I had the opposite reactions to Liv. I didn't buy into her character and found myself often annoyed rolling my eyes at her actions and thoughts. I don't necessarily have to like the characters to like a book, but I think we were supposed to like Liv and at times I just didn't. I also had trouble buying into the relationship between her and Paul.

My biggest problem, and this is without giving away any spoilers, is that I don't like books that try to wrap up all the loose ends with a bow. I thought the book could've had a stronger impact without this and I thought there were way too many coincidences and convenient twists along the way.

So this was a mixed bag for me; I loved the WWI bits but was frustrated by the present-day storyline.

A literary work of art...

Did you ever get a gift that started out in a big box and you just kept opening smaller boxes within until you finally got to the real gift? This is what THE GIRL YOU LEFT BEHIND makes me imagine. There are stories wrapped up like gifts between the covers of this book.

The Germans have taken over the small town of St. P�rrone in France. It is 1917. World War I. Sophie Lef�vre's beloved husband, �douard, an artist who studied at the Academie Matisse, has been drawn to the front lines of battle. Before �douard left, he painted a very seductive portrait of his Sophie. Forced to cook for the German soldiers in her family's hotel Le Cog Rouge, where that painting hangs, Sophie and her portrait gain the attention of Kommandant Hencken. Upon hearing that �douard is in extreme peril, Sophie risks all to save him.

"15 January 1917

Today they took Sophie Lef�vre. Such a sight you never saw. She was minding her own business down in the cellars of Le Cog Rouge when two Germans came across the square and dragged her up the steps and hauled her out, as if she were a criminal."

It is 2006 and Olivia "Liv" Halston has been mourning the death of her husband, David, for four years. Before his death, David gifted Liv with a painting entitled "The Girl You Left Behind". While visiting Spain, David and Liv gave aid to a woman who was being forced to dispose of all of her Mother's property. This painting was to be discarded. Instead David bought the painting for Liv.

Paul McCafferty, recently divorced, works for a successful company that helps to return precious property to their rightful owners. The family of �duourd Lef�vre, whose paintings have grown exponentially in their value in the last nearly 100 years, want their painting back~~that portrait of Sophie~~the very one that hangs on the bedroom wall at Liv Halston's home. Liv has grown so attached to that painting that she will fight with all she has, and that is very little, to keep it.

Don't stop now. There's another package to open. I love this part.

Louanne Baker is an American journalist sent to the concentration camp in Dachau in 1945 to write a story about the people held there. While there, Ms. Baker is sent instead to a storage facility that houses the stolen and looted works of art that unrightfully fell into the hands of the Nazis. Somehow, when she leaves, that very same portrait of Sophie, has gone with her.

This one painting has touched so many lives. It has ruined some. It has completed some. To whom does this painting rightfully belong?

When the stories above intertwine throughout time, the result is an amazing tale that will leave you reeling. I am simply amazed at the author's ability to see the bits and pieces of this story in her mind's eye and have it come together. Just like a painter seeing the vision of his painting and coating the layers of paint upon the canvas, Ms. Moyes has layered her stories to create a literary work of art. Brilliant. ✰✰✰✰✰

An amazing read

This book is set in two halves. The first being in France during WW1. Sophia is left struggling to support her sister and her family whilst both their husbands have gone off to war. With the Germans occupying their small village, life is extremely tough and complicated. All she has of her husband is a portrait that he has painted of her.

The second half of the book joins us nearly 100 years later on and we follow Liv's live as she struggles to come to terms with the sudden death of her husband. All she has is the painting he gave her on her honeymoon. This one painting connects the ladies so unexpectedly.

What a wonderful book, heart breaking, emotional and gripping read. Jojo has again written a book that will have you staying up until the early hours as you just have to see what happens next. Extremely well written and will totally engage you. I found the first half of the book so emotional and I was briefly disappointed when we skipped to the present day. However, one chapter in, I was as hooked as I was with the first part. A brilliant book and I one not to be missed.

We believe that mathematics is a natural and deep part of human experience and that experiences of meaning in mathematics are accessible to everyone. Much of mathematics is not accessible through formal approaches except to those with specialized learning. However, through the use of nonformal experience and geometric imagery, many levels of meaning in mathematics can be opened up in a way that most humans can experience and find intellectually challenging and stimulating.

Formalism contains the power of the meaning but not the meaning. It is necessary to bring the power back to the meaning.

A formal proof as we normally conceive of it is not the goal of mathematics—it is a tool—a means to an end. The goal is understanding. Without understanding we will never be satisfied—with understanding we want to expand that understanding and to communicate it to others. This book is based on a view of proof as a convincing communication that answers—Why?

Many formal aspects of mathematics have now been mechanized and this mechanization is widely available on personal computers or even handheld calculators, but the experience of meaning in mathematics is still a human enterprise that is necessary for creative work.

In this book we invite the reader to explore the basic ideas of geometry from a more mature standpoint. We will suggest some of the deeper meanings, larger contexts, and interrelations of the ideas. We are interested in conveying a different approach to mathematics, stimulating the reader to take a broader and deeper view of mathematics and to experience for herself/himself a sense of mathematizing. Through an active participation with these ideas, including exploring and writing about them, people can gain a broader context and experience. This active participation is vital for anyone who wishes to understand mathematics at a deeper level, or anyone wishing to understand something in their experience through the vehicle of mathematics.

This is particularly true for teachers or prospective teachers who are approaching related topics in the school curriculum. All too often we convey to students that mathematics is a closed system, with a single answer or approach to every problem, and often without a larger context. We believe that even where there are strict curricular constraints, there is room to change the meaning and the experience of mathematics in the classroom.

This book is based on a junior/senior-level course that David started teaching in 1974 at Cornell for mathematics majors, high school teachers, future high school teachers, and others. Most of the chapters start intuitively so that they are accessible to a general reader with no particular mathematics background except imagination and a willingness to struggle with ideas. However, the discussions in the book were written for mathematics majors and mathematics teachers and thus assume of the reader a corresponding level of interest and mathematical sophistication.

The course emphasizes learning geometry using reason, intuitive understanding, and insightful personal experiences of meanings in geometry. To accomplish this the students are given a series of inviting and challenging problems and are encouraged to write and speak their reasonings and understandings.

Most of the problems are placed in an appropriate history perspective and approached both in the context of the plane and in the context of a sphere or hyperbolic plane (and sometimes a geometric manifold). We find that by exploring the geometry of a sphere and a hyperbolic plane, our students gain a deeper understanding of the geometry of the (Euclidean) plane.

We introduce the modern notion of "parallel transport along a geodesic," which is a notion of parallelism that makes sense on the plane but also on a sphere or hyperbolic plane (in fact, on any surface). While exploring parallel transport on a sphere, students are able to appreciate more fully that the similarities and differences between the Euclidean geometry of the plane and the nonEuclidean geometries of a sphere or hyperbolic plane are not adequately described by the usual Parallel Postulate. We find that the early interplay between the plane and spheres and hyperbolic planes enriches all the later topics whether on the plane or on spheres and hyperbolic planes. All of these benefits will also exist by only studying the plane and spheres for those instructors that choose to do so.

CHANGES IN THIS EDITION

This book is an expansion and revision of the book Experiencing Geometry on Plane and Sphere (1996) and the book Experiencing Geometry in Euclidean, Spherical, and Hyperbolic Spaces (2001). There are several important changes: First, there are now coauthors—Daina was a "contributor" to the second edition. She brings considerable experience with and knowledge of the history of mathematics. We start in Chapter 0 with an introduction to four strands in the history of geometry and use the framework of these strands to infuse history into (almost) every chapter in the book in ways to enhance the students understanding and to clear up many misconceptions. There are two new chapters—the old Chapter 14 (Circles in the Plane) has been split into two new chapters: Chapter 15 (on circles with added results on spheres and hyperbolic plane and about trisecting angles and other constructions) and Chapter 16 (on inversions with added material on applications). There is also a new Chapter 21, on the geometry of mechanisms that includes historical machines and results in modern mathematics.

We have included discussions of four new geometric results announced' in 2003-2004: In Chapter 12 we describe the discovery and solution of Archimedes' Stomacion Problem. Problem 15.2 is based on the 2003 generalization of the notion of power of a point to spheres. In Chapter 16 we talk about applications of a problem of Apollonius to modern pharmacology. In Chapter 18 we discuss the newly announced solution of the Poincare Conjecture. In Chapter 22 we bring in a new result about unfolding linkages. In Chapter 24 we discuss the latest updates on the shape of space, including the possibility that the shape of the universe is based on a dodecahedron. In addition, we have rearranged and clarified other chapters from the earlier editions.

interesting approach

This book takes an interesting approach to exploring geometry with a lot of drawings and instructions on how to create physical models. however a lot of the knowledge is placed on the user to explore the subject and think. a lot of theorems and lemmas are not given or proven in the book. i think this book is great along side a course in undergraduate geometry, but lacks examples, excersises, and solutions, too much so to be used for self study. so overall a great textbook but not a great book to read during your free time. for that reason i only give it 3 stars.

Some good surface geometry, then poor

The first five chapters or so are an interesting and intuitive introduction to surface geometry. We "experience" the geometry of a sphere by stretching rubber bands on tennis balls or rolling them across freshly painted floors etc., and make observations like "The water strider is very sensitive to motion and vibration on the water's surface, but it can be approached from above or below without its knowledge. Hungry birds and fish take advantage of this fact." Then we study cylinders and cones. Since they have zero curvature their straight lines can be be understood as straight lines on their covering surfaces (straightness is preserved when a cylinder unfolds like a roll of toilet paper, etc.). Then hyperbolic geometry. The plane of hyperbolic geometry can be built by pasting together thin, semi-circular annuli. It can also be crocheted by the same principle. The pseudosphere (a hyperbolic cylinder) is easier to build: just pile up increasingly pointy cones. It can also be successfully crocheted. The annular plane is essentially a pseudosphere cut lengthwise. Thus it is a hyperbolic piece of paper rather than a hyperbolic cylinder, which should be a good thing. But unfortunately the annular plane cannot be extended very far without scrunching up. This defeats its purpose. It would be very difficult to develop any intuition for Euclidean geometry by working on a piece of paper scrunched up to a ball; a good, clean cylinder would be much more useful, provided of course that its imperfections are kept in mind. So I think we might as well stick to the pseudosphere. Over the next few chapters the "experiencing" approach deteriorates slightly, and necessarily so I think, as we study triangle congruencies and parallelism. The fruits of our efforts are limited. We make a start at the problem of determining the area of hyperbolic triangles, but only later will we be able to complete it using double integrals. And the relation between hyperbolic geometry and the parallel postulate is not done justice: it appears to be incidental rather than a major reason for studying hyperbolic geometry in the first place, and besides it is not very clear since lines to us are stitches in the scrunchy waltz-dress model (the standard plane models for hyperbolic geometry will appear briefly only later). The second half of the book is quite useless. There are isolated chapters on all sorts of completely unconnected topics: isometries and patters, Euclidean circle geometry, 2-manifolds, geometric solution of quadratic and cubic equations, polyhedra, etc. There is not much "experiencing" going on, although we do experience that life is easy for our authors and hard for us: they introduce something new, draw a few pictures, and as soon as there is any work to be done they claim it as a problem for the reader and move on to something else.

Challenging text, well written. Any class using this book will be difficult!
Most of the time the text is so thorough that you could learn the material alone with a group of students--and no teacher!
